The klixon is the device that cuts off the power to your freezer’s compressor to limit its overheating.
If you notice that your freezer is suddenly no longer cold, the klixon may be faulty.
The klixon is usually found at the back of the device, near the compressor, in the power box.
The Klixon is a brand of overload protector that safeguards the compressor motor in your chest freezer. If the compressor motor draws too much current for an extended period, the Klixon operates to disconnect the motor from the power supply, preventing potential damage. If your chest freezer isn’t cooling correctly, a faulty Klixon could be to blame. Here’s a guide on how to replace your chest freezer’s Klixon.

Steps to Replace a Klixon in a Chest Freezer
Step 1: Unplug the Chest Freezer
Before starting any repair work on electrical appliances, make sure to disconnect it from the power source. Unplug the chest freezer to ensure your safety.
Step 2: Locate the Klixon
The Klixon is located near the compressor at the back of the freezer. You might need to move your chest freezer away from the wall to access the back.
Step 3: Remove the Compressor’s Cover
Use a screwdriver to remove the screws that secure the cover over the compressor. Once you’ve removed the cover, you should be able to see the Klixon. It’s usually attached to the side of the compressor and connected by a couple of wires.
Step 4: Remove the Old Klixon
Before removing the wires connected to the Klixon, take a picture or make a note of the connections to help you connect the new Klixon correctly. Disconnect the wires from the Klixon. The Klixon itself should easily pull off the compressor, as it’s typically a press fit.
Step 5: Install the New Klixon
Attach the new Klixon to the side of the compressor where the old one was located. It should press into place. Now, using the picture or note you took earlier, reconnect the wires to the Klixon.
Step 6: Replace the Compressor Cover
Once you’ve connected the new Klixon, you can replace the cover over the compressor. Secure it with the screws you removed earlier.
Step 7: Plug in the Chest Freezer
Finally, plug the chest freezer back into the power source. Monitor the chest freezer to ensure that it’s cooling correctly.
By following these steps, you can successfully replace the Klixon in your chest freezer. However, remember that if at any point you feel uncomfortable or uncertain, don’t hesitate to contact a professional for assistance. Safety should always be your top priority.
